Australia

  1. 03/03/18 Kamillah Jones, 1, of Inverell, New South Wales, Australia died from 1 Rottweiler.
    Incident: The dog grabbed the baby girl out of her pram while mother was walking with her daughter down the street. The child suffered critical injuries and died on the way to hospital.
    Dog(s): The dog, owned by a family member, had cleared (jumped) a fence. The dog was seized.
    Owner(s): A family member.

  2. 03/01/19 Colin Amatto, 40, of Tregear, New South Wales, Australia died from 2 American Staffordshire Terriers.
    Incident: Victim was attacked on January 24th and sustained a significant number of injuries to his face, abdomen, and chest, and went into cardiac arrest. He was placed in an induced coma and died five weeks later. A 30-year old woman and a 10-year-old girl were also injured in the attack and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
    Dog(s): The dogs were euthanized.
    Owner(s): Undisclosed, but not the victim's dogs.

  3. 05/16/19 Rosemary O'Reilly, 72, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia died from 1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Rhodesian Ridgeback cross.
    Incident: The couple's pet dog attacked either the wife or husband (reports vary), and the other stepped in to help. Both suffered severe bite wounds. The woman died in hospital.
    Dog(s): The dog, Athena, was seized by Wollondilly Council Rangers. It had been owned by the couple for about 3 years, was registered, and had not been reported to council previously. There were a number of dogs at the home.

  4. 06/10/19 Graham Smith, 51, of Nowra, New South Wales, Australia died from 1 Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
    Incident: Found dead in his unit. After investigating the death, investigators came to the conclusion he was attacked by his own dog after suffering an epileptic fit. There were extensive injuries to the body.
    Dog(s): The dog was euthanized.
    Owner(s): Victim.

  5. 07/10/19 Leo Biancofiore, 61, of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia died from 1 American Staffordshire Terrier.
    Incident: Dog attacked elderly wheelchair-bound man, who died. His wife Donata was hospitalized in serious condition. Police fired at the dog to stop it.
    Dog(s): The dog, named Junior, was euthanized.
    Owner(s): Victim's son.

    Incident: Victim was alone in the bedroom and was bitten by the family dog on the head.

  12. 06/12/97 Sharon Reynolds, 7, of Kingston, Ontario, Canada died from 1 Pit bull.
    Incident: Killed by family’s pit bull in her home.

    Further: Victim's mother, Louise Reynolds, was wrongly charged with stabbing Sharon, and spent three and a half years in jail before she was cleared by the combination of forensic evidence indicting the dog and the discovery that the author of the original pathology report had misrepresented evidence in many cases.

  16. 04/27/98 Courtney Trempe, 8, of Stouffville, Ontario, Canada died from 1 Bullmastiff.
    Incident: Victim was playing in her neighbor's yard when their dog brutally attacked her and killed her. The dog pierced her carotid artery and crushed her windpipe.
    Dog(s): The dog was a 60 kilogram (132 lb) bull mastiff with a history of attacking people. It was destroyed.
    Owner(s): Neighbor.
    Further: The jury for the coroner's inquest made 35 recommendations, including new laws forcing dog owners to take more effective control of problem animals, and allowing the courts to order potentially dangerous dogs destroyed. It wants fines for irresponsible dog owners substantially increased and they say those people should be prohibited from owning another dog for a specified period of time. Jurors also want a ban on trained guard or attack dogs, except for police or security agencies and they want a province-wide database to track problem dogs.

  17. 08/23/98 Woman and her son, 44, of Zacharias Island, Labrador , Canada died from 8 Sled dogs.
    Incident: A pack of sled dogs killed a woman and her 10-year-old son who were picking berries on an island off the Labrador coast, police said. The dogs had been left on the island for the summer.

  22. 11/27/99 Cecilia Alook, 6, of Garden River, Alberta, Canada died from Pack of Dogs.
    Incident: Little Red River reserve: Victim stopped to pet a puppy nearby her home when she was attacked by a pack of starving dogs just 200 metres from her home.
    Further: They passed an animal control bylaw in 2000 after Cecilia's death. The resolution said dogs found untied on the reserve would be taken into custody for one day. If unclaimed, the band could destroy the dog.

  23. 01/27/02 Kyra-Lee Sibthorpe, 4, of Woodland Beach, Ontario, Canada died from 2 dogs (Rottweiler & Labrador cross).
    Incident: Victim was killed by her father’s dog. She was found by neighbors in a field, alone, just metres from a road.
    Dog(s): The girl was familiar with her father's Rottweiler, but the Labrador cross had only arrived five days prior. The Lab was put down. The Rott was quarantined.

  24. 03/01/03 James Waddell, 4, of Kingston Peninsula, New Brunswick, Canada died from 3 Rottweilers.
    Incident: Victim was playing outside of his home in when he was attacked and killed by the dogs.
    Dog(s): The dogs were seized and euthanized.
    Owner(s): The owner of the dogs lived in the same house as the victim, but police had not determined if the dogs and boy knew each other.

    Incident: Victim was attacked by four dogs in his home in while his mother slept. He had extensive injuries and died in the hospital.
    Dog(s): All four dogs were seized and euthanized.
    Owner(s): Two dogs were owned by the family and two were visiting.

  27. 05/29/06 John Martin, 77, of Wellburn, Ontario, Canada died from 1 Pit bull mix.
    Incident: Victim was "playfully poking" at his wife in their driveway when their 5-yr-old 88# dog lunged at victim’s throat and killed him.
    Dog(s): The dog was described by authorities as Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever cross.

  28. 06/15/06 Rory Clipping, 3, of Tadoule Lake, Manitoba, Canada died from 2+ dogs.
    Incident: Sayisi Dene First Nation reserve: Victim was mauled to death by several dogs near Tadoule Lake, Manitoba. Victim was playing outside with his cousin when two dogs attacked, bit his neck and killed him.
    Dog(s): One of the dogs, a husky-cross, was shot and killed by a band member shortly after the mauling.

  29. 07/27/06 Derian Bird, 2, of Hollow Water First Nation, Manitoba, Canada died from 2 Huskies.
    Incident: Unsupervised child wandered into group of loose and tethered dogs. 2 identified as killers (one loose, one tethered). Tethered dog part of sled team. 17-year old babysitter noticed child was missing one hour later. Uncle found child.

  30. 11/16/06 Lancelot Corbin Wyatt Loonskin (aka Lance Ribbonleg), 5, of Fort Vermilion, Alberta, Canada died from 6 dogs.
    Incident: North Tallcree First Nation reserve: Victim left one household to go to another (he often travelled between them). Some neighbors heard dog ruckus and went outside with shovels, scared off the dogs, and found dead victim. The boy’s body and face was so badly damaged they had trouble making a positive ID of the victim.
    Dog(s): Two of the six dogs (an adult male Rottweiler and a German Shepherd cross) were seized and later destroyed. The other dogs were presumed strays.
    Owner(s): 2 owned by a neighbor, the other 4 presumed strays.
    Further: The band had tried earlier to collect loose dogs and destroy them but received too many complaints and stopped doing it. The Tallcree band council passed a resolution similar to an animal control bylaw in 2000 after Cecilia Alook's death. The resolution said dogs found untied on the reserve would be taken into custody for one day. If unclaimed, the band could destroy the dog.

    Incident: Cumberland House First Nation Reserve: One report describes dogs as strays, another as owned by a neighbour who let them run loose. Death from bites and hypothermia. Child unsupervised on way to school.

    Incident: Victim wandered into the backyard where the dog was chained. She was rushed to the hospital but she died from her injuries.

    Incident: Victim was walking to his cousin’s house, which he did most mornings, when he was attacked.
    Dog(s): Neighbors.
    Owner(s): The dogs, which had been aggressive to other community members, were put down because they returned to the scene before the victim's body could be removed.

  34. 03/22/10 Sabock Akpalialuk, 4, of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Canada died from 3 Huskies.
    Incident: Victim was found by the town coroner who was driving past on his ATV and saw dogs tearing into a body.
    Dog(s): The dogs were three of a sled dog team that had gotten loose of their chains; the remaining team was still chained. A local resident shot and killed the three loose dogs.
    Owner(s): A former mayor Manasa Evic, the owner of the dogs, was away on medical travel at the time.

    Incident: Victim was killed outside of a house where she and her family were visiting friends. She died shortly after being mauled by the two Alaskan Malamutes. The victim and the dogs were familiar with each other.

    Incident: Victim was killed by a sled dog in Puvirnituq, Quebec who was chained on a neighbor's property. She was mauled and died from her extensive injuries.

    Incident: Victim was killed and partially eaten by stray dogs while walking in the woods.

    Incident: Victim was killed by a family member's 60# dog which was tied up in a backyard.
    Dog(s): Responders shot the aggressive dog. It appeared to be partly a bull-terrier breed.

    Incident: Victim was killed by a dog in Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut. The dog properly tied up at the time.
    Owner(s): Neighbor.

  43. 06/08/16 Christiane Vadnais, 55, of Montreal, Quebec, Canada died from 1 American Staffordshire Terrier.
    Incident: Victim was killed in her own yard by a neighbor's escaped dog that had a muzzle dangling around its neck.
    Dog(s): The dog had previously bitten two others and was so aggressive its owner kept it muzzled when in his home. DNA testing found the dog to be 87.5% American Staffordshire Terrier. Since it had been illegal in Montreal to acquire pit-bull-type dogs like Staffordshire Terriers, the owner registered it as a boxer.
    Owner(s): The owner of the dog could have been charged with criminal negligence.
    Further: The victim's sister wrote a book about her sister's life and violent death, and the aftermath, including bullying and threats by pit bull defenders. After the mauling death of Vadnais, Montreal officials signaled they would move forward with a breed-specific bylaw, introducing the legislation in September.

  44. 05/13/17 Donnelly Rose Eaglestick, 24, of Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba, Canada died from Large pack Stray dogs.
    Incident: Victim was chased down and attacked while walking home at night through a construction site. She was severely mauled and had died of her injuries when her body was found the following morning.
    Dog(s): One dog was shot when it showed aggression towards responders.

    Incident: Victim was found dead at water treatment plant surrounded by 30 dogs.

  46. 07/27/17 Andrew Kochut, 41, of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada died from 1 American Bulldog-Boxer mix.
    Incident: Victim was in his girlfriend’s apartment with his dog and was attacked by the dog during an epileptic seizure. Victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
    Dog(s): The dog was euthanized.
    Owner(s): Victim.
    Further: The landlord evicted the girlfriend and charged her $15,000 to clean up “an enormous loss of blood and bodily fluid” and bring the apartment “into compliance.”

    Incident: Victim was attacked and killed by two dogs outside a home.
    Dog(s): The two dogs were surrendered, euthanized, and sent for rabies testing.

  48. 09/15/18 Lisa Lloyd, 50, of Langdon, Alberta, Canada died from 1 Boxer-Pit bull.
    Incident: The dog attacked a toddler and the dog’s owner intervened. The dog turned on the adult and killed her.
    Dog(s): The dog was seized along with its dam, a boxer.
    Owner(s): The victim.

Germany

  1. 06/26/00 Volkan Kaja, 6, of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany died from 2 dogs (Staffordshire Bull Terrier & Pit bull).
    Incident: Two dogs jumped into a schoolyard and attacked about 10 children, leaving two injured and one dead.
    Dog(s): The dogs were shot dead by responding police.
    Owner(s): Two people were arrested.
    Further: Following this, another fatal dog attack earlier the same year, and a long series of serious injuries caused by fighting dogs, the German government enacted laws banning certain breeds, including penalties of up to 100,000 Deutsche Marks ($48,100 USD).

Ireland

  1. 06/04/17 Teresa McDonagh, 64, of Moycullen, County Galway, Ireland died from 3 Presa Canarios.
    Incident: Victim had gone to visit her grandchildren and was found face-down in the lane by her daughter-in-law, the dogs' owner. The dogs had a previous history of aggression including puncturing the postman's tyres. A breeding pair of adult dogs, which weighed 43–46 kilograms (95–101 lb), and one of their puppies were involved. Victim sustained broken bones, massive injuries, and died of hemorrhagic shock.
    Further: The inquest jury endorsed recommendations to add the breed to the list of dangerous or restricted dog breeds, and mandate muzzling, licensing, and training.

Kenya

  1. 08/18/15 Elizabeth Claire Wright, 55, of Watamu, Kilifi County, Kenya died from 3 Rottweilers.
    Incident: The Kenyan husband of the English victim came home to find his wife dead and the three dogs feeding on her body. The husband said he'd warned her to stay away from the dogs, and it was presumed she had opened their cage to feed them. Victim had been visiting her husband at his Kenya beachside home from her home in England where she worked at a school.

    Incident: Victim was attacked and killed by a pit bull that was kept tied up on a roof. Victim died on scene.

  1. 10/23/19 Name undisclosed, 8 months, of Diemen, North Holland, Netherlands died from 1 Undisclosed.
    Incident: Victim was attacked by his grandparent's dog, was flown to a hospital and died the following day.
    Dog(s): The dog was euthanized the same day. Officials did not disclose the breed of the dog.
    Owner(s): Victim's grandparents.
    Further: Netherlands is working on a breeding and import ban for high risk dogs. Two months prior a woman was seriously injured by three Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

  1. 10/09/19 Name undisclosed, 1, of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria died from 1 Pit bull.
    Incident: Victim was playing outside when the dog pounced on him, latching onto his head.
    Dog(s): Local residents beat the dog to death while trying to get it to let go of the baby.
    Owner(s): A Regimental Sergeant Major in the Mambilla Barracks.

Russia

  1. 06/17/17 Name undisclosed, Unknown age, of Sovetsky, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug region, Russia died from 12 stray dogs.
    Incident: A drunk man who had been feeding a pack of stray dog for two years, was attacked and killed by them when he tried to pass the pack without feeding them and fell during the encounter. His remains were found the following morning. The incident was captured on CCTV. He reportedly died just two minutes after the first dog attacked.

    Owner(s): Unknown.

  1. 08/14/16 Name undisclosed, 4, of Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa died from 1 dogs.
    Incident: Victim was attacked by the family dog and received multiple injuries to his face and head.
    Dog(s): The dog was put down.

  2. 08/26/16 Faith Hendricks, 1, of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa died from 1 Pit bull.
    Incident: Victim was attacked by the family pit bull which got off its chain.
    Dog(s): Bruno, a pit bull, was seized and later euthanized due to its injuries and law mandates.
    Owner(s): Victim's grandfather, Victor Hendricks, 61.
    Further: The law states that an animal which causes injuries to people that require medical attention should be euthanised.

    Incident: Victim and his cousin were swimming in a small lake. Two dogs jumped a fence and attacked the child.

    Incident: Victim was mauled by her two large dogs. The victim, who weighed 112#, was unable to fight them off. Neighbors were alerted by screams from the victim's two twin daughters. The neighbors forced their way into the victim's house and attempted to distract the dogs by throwing bricks and tools at them. Police shot the dogs on scene and the victim was treated by paramedics but later died.
